Back from Battle

It was a long two nights.
Complete silence filled our humble apartment during the evening hours. No little, red bell merrily jingling about at odd hours of the morning. No *thuds* against the door to try and enter our bedroom. No little, pink nose and feathery whiskers to graze our faces in the morning to wake us up.

We went to welcome the "troops" on Monday evening at the vet's office. We packed Killian's carrier full of treats and a freshly washed fleece blanket to keep him warm on the way home. We were quickly ushered into a waiting room where animal cries could faintly be heard. But most prominently, I could hear the loud whine of our poor baby, scared out of his trembling little skin. They carried him over to us, his eyes filled with horror as he glanced over at the worlds largest dog. His neck, ever so extended, was cautious and it turned at even the slightest noise.

Heavily on pain killers, we brought our baby home. He walked around loopishly (is that a word? If not, I just made it one) and settled right onto the foot of our bed where we let him stay ONLY when he's been extra good. He slept for a good 24 hours, which were exactly on the Doctor's orders... because he is, after all, on kitty bed-rest (seriously?). Yes, seriously.

So if you made it past the drama, you can get the low-down. Our kitty was "blocked," which means that he couldn't "go." This, obviously, was quite painful for him and was actually life-threatening had we not taken him to the vet. They hooked sweet fluffy-face up to a catheter and cleared the sucker right up. To do this, however, they had to hook him up to an IV, hence the partially (and quite pathetically) shaved arm. Although he has no open wounds, he continues to lick his bare leg quite incessantly. Since this is the equivalent to a human Urinary Tract Infection, there is no guarantee that this will fix him forever. We've changed his diet and are now feeding him filtered water. I'm sure he'll grow to be quite spoiled from here on out. Anyway, Killian is only about 4 years old and has never had any health problems. Hopefully this will not be the start of a new trend. Thank you ALL for keeping him (and us) in your thoughts... we're glad he's home from battle.
