Being in the town of Napier, we wanted to venture out to see "New Zealand" like you would see it in the magazines. Thankfully, there is tons of gorgeous, lush, green landscapes around the town, which is not too far of a drive.
One day, we ventured out up to the Napier bluff to visit the prison, which is apparently the oldest prison in New Zealand. It was also supremely creepy so I didn't take any pictures inside. However, the outside was kind of cool...and creepy. It was also pouring down rain when we went, so it was a quick trip since most of the sites were outside!
The next day, we ventured out to Te Mata Peak, which is the site where the winery overlooked from last post. It was just as beautiful and impressive from the top as it was from the bottom! How mighty is our God to mold such a feature out of the land like this? It was pretty cloudy and gray when we went, but I love it anyway. Apparently when the sun is out, the peaks look golden. The peak is also so tall, but sheep and cows still manage to climb the hill to eat. Wow. How magnificent! The hike was really steep and our first hike after arriving in New Zealand. Nothing has made me feel more out of shape than that hike! Oh well, at least it was short and we only did it once :) It was still fun and the views were worth it!
