This past Saturday, Bobby and I drove up to Baltimore (yet again!) to visit with my family for my Dad's 65th Birthday party! Along with a bottle of wine and a new bottle opener (theirs is about 45 years old), we sent my parents to go to "High School Musical" at the Hippodrome in Baltimore! For some reason, they both LOVE that movie and convince me to watch it every time I visit! So, for their 43rd Anniversary and my Dad's Birthday, they're going to "wanna be Fabulous!" (---movie quote for those who have not seen the movie!)
To top that off, my Mom gave my Dad a saxophone!! When my Dad was a frat boy at University of Maryland, he was in a dance band - yes, what we now only see in the movies: matching gold blazers, metal instruments, girls in poodle skirts, etc. None of his five children has ever seen him play! My mom also convinced my Grandfather to bring his Accordion down with him! I haven't seen HIM play since I was about eight years old! So after dinner all of us sat around with some chocolate cake and listened to my Dad and Grandfather re-live their glory days and they played some old classics! It was so funny to see all (with the exception of the 2 blonde's in NC) the nieces and nephews dance around to the sound of these lost instruments and shout "Play More, Grampa!! More songs, PopPop!" Both played splendidly well for not having played in so many years!
For those of you clueless as to what an accordion is or what it sounds like, there's a short video we caught from the evening! The only thing missing from the ensemble was a little, "Do - a deer, a female deer, Ray - a drop of golden sun....!!!"
